Public Faces, Private Places

"Public Faces, Private Places" by photographer and photography educator Carley Stevens-McLaughlin highlights images of teens who dress differently in public. She enables us to better understand and value their "differentness", through images also captured during unguarded private moments and by asking them to describe in their own words why they choose to look differently. What emerges are powerful portraits of creative, intelligent youths seeking to find their way. In this NICI publication, Stevens-McLaughlin hopes to provide teachers, guidance counselors, school leaders and all those who care about the well-being of youths with valuable insights for understanding and affirming them.

All proceeds from this book go to MC Squared, a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, to support investigations by K-12 students to identify and address qualify of life concerns in their community.

(the authors' share of the proceeds for this book go to MC Squared)

Toward Digital Equity helps educators understand the current state of technology in education and the “Digital Divide” —what it is, how it emerged, current trends, and potential solutions. It discusses how schools acquire hardware, software, and connectivity, and why some schools experience such success in these endeavors while others are left heartbreakingly behind. Most importantly, it examines the most current research in the effectiveness of technology and pedagogy in diverse settings to make suggestions on how teachers can create powerful learning environments for all students.
